Hey there, traders! Have you ever found yourself wanting to keep an eye on another financial instrument while you're busy analyzing your current chart? Well, you're in luck! Today, we're diving into the Another_Symbol indicator for MetaTrader 4, which can help you do just that.
Sometimes, you need to display quotes from a different symbol or timeframe right alongside your current chart. This can be particularly handy when looking for divergences between the charts of two symbols. The Another_Symbol indicator makes this possible by showing key data from another symbol in a convenient subwindow.
So, how does it work? The indicator allows you to specify the other symbol in the "Symbol" parameter. You can also choose your preferred timeframe using the "Chart period" setting, and select one of the four key price points from the candles: the opening price, closing price, high, or low. Plus, the "Price" parameter offers additional options to calculate average prices—like Median, Typical, and Weighted Close.
For example, let’s say you want to display the closing price of GBPUSD while analyzing the EURUSD chart. The Another_Symbol indicator will do just that!

One of the cool things about this indicator is its simplicity. It doesn’t sync the charts based on time; instead, it uses the bar indexes. This means that if there's no corresponding bar for the current chart's bar in the other symbol, it will display data from the nearest available bar. While this may not be an issue on higher timeframes, it can create noticeable time lags on lower ones, especially with M1 charts.

However, this discrepancy has its downsides. If you're not careful, it can distort your view of the other symbol's chart. That’s why the Another_Symbol indicator is best suited for timeframes where bar gaps are rare, like M30 or higher.
But here's the silver lining: you can still display M15 or even M5 charts on an H1 chart. So, if you're looking to keep tabs on multiple symbols without the hassle of switching back and forth, this indicator is definitely worth a shot!
